You know when you know

Oh how I love that show. Jack Pearson sets the bar at an all time high. Sorry guys out there but that’s a seriously high standard to live up to.

Anyways, that is not what this post is about, just borrowed the title which lead to the immediate distraction of that stellar sexy family man….and there I go again!

I want to dive a bit into our story so you know about the people in these pictures, the person behind these words.

I’m 34 (a woman never reveals her age so you knew I had to!) I was married to a man completely wrong for me for almost 7 years.  We got married when I was 21. I was way too young but I thought I knew everything and no one could convince me otherwise (Well done Jenn!) Although the marriage itself was a really really bad idea, I have the most amazing kid from it. (When life gives you lemons right!?) Addison’s Dad and I  have been separated for over 5 years. It’s been a battle and and an ever changing journey since the split (those details for another day) Since then there was another really bad idea in terms of a relationship (a.k.a. rebound) that took place while I should have been working on myself and healing parts of me that I chose to neglect for the comfort and fun found in companionship. After finally convincing my stubborn headstrong self that I was clearly settling and needed to remove myself from that situation, from all situations, to learn to be on my own and enjoy my own company. I value those few months of hard work and isolation from the dating world more than I can tell you. When I decided it was OK to put myself back out there I joined match and kept myself open to any and every opportunity that came my way (within reason) so I could really get a feel for what’s out there and get to know what  like and don’t like, so there would be no more settling.

Enter Mark….We joined match.com the same day. I messaged him first (apparently I wasn’t in his search parameters – good excuse, right!?) to be fair I am 10 years his junior so to avoid looking like a total creeper online he had more responsible age parameters set for himself. We enjoyed messaging each other, talking to him was so different, so easy and effortless. We had a struggle of coordinating our schedules but we worked something out and met two weeks after we had started talking. We both knew we had found something different, something special and we quickly lined up more dates to see each other again.

That old adage “when you know, you know”  we finally understood that one. Mark really is my perfect match. We’re on the same page, have lots of shared interests and values. I found my best friend in my partner and that alone is good enough to guarantee that whatever this crazy life throws at us, we’ll make it through it. It’s been two years since we started this crazy journey together and it’s not always rainbows and butterflies but when you have a partner that you couldn’t live without even the struggles are something you know you can get through.

xx Jenn
